There are many satellites in orbit around the Earth. Some of these satellites are used by satellite internet providers, such as HarbourSat in Australia, to provide Internet to people who have a dish antenna. This is extremely useful in places where cable connections would be unfeasible or expensive. For instance, desert areas may benefit more from a satellite internet provider than a cable provider, simply because the skies are much clearer and there would be less interference. The HarbourSat internet service provider is funded by the Australian government, so it is actually cheaper than a standard dial-up or cable service.
