I grew up back in the 1970s in the state of Iowa on a pig farm before moving back East. While I haven’t been back to the old farm town in almost twenty years, my childhood there has shaped me into the man I am today and there’s not a day that goes by that I’m not reminded about my days in my hometown. My family has been pig raising in Iowa since the turn of the century; according to my grandfather, his parents moved to Iowa after losing it all in the New York stock exchange and, up until me, no one has left Iowa. Even though I made it full circle as far as the family story goes – going from New York to Iowa and then back to New York – I will always be a Midwestern pig farmer at heart and, despite all my current successes here in the Big Apple, I look forward to eventually moving back to the farm in my retirement some day.
