California Condors After the Fire

Since 1997, about half of the California Condors (big relatives of vultures) have been reintroduced into the Los Padres National Forest. The wildfires in California this summer hit that area pretty hard. No one expected the endangered condors to survive. When the fires began, there were 8 condors in captivity that had to be moved, for their safety and for the safety of the staff. After the fire, the staff returned to see a lot of their work was destroyed, including cages BUT they saw at least one condor perched on a rock looking at its empty cage. Survival of the newbies.
