When I was first served with divorce papers it was like I had been kicked in the stomach with a size ten boot. The next day I discovered that all of our bank accounts had been emptied, the credit cards were maxed out, and I had bills to pay. I did not have a divorce strategy, I had a need to survive. My biggest mistake was hiring a lawyer. I did not know if I needed one. My wife had one. Her attorney told me I needed one and the attorney I called out of the yellow pages assured me I needed one too. A good paralegal would have been a much better strategy.
