It is quite common for people to adopt animals from shelters. These dogs do not fall under the general house training a puppy rule book. Sometimes you will get a dog that has been previously trained but sometimes you may get an older dog who has never been trained. This does not have to be the end of the world because your new dog can learn. The methods of training may have to be tweaked a bit but an older dog doesn’t have all fo the cordination issues of a puppy and may very well pick up training quicker. Dogs are looking for direction.
