Hard to Get Good Information

I wonder if it’s really safe to make your own dog food unless you’re a vet or something. I’ve been thinking about starting to make at least some of my dog’s food myself because I don’t really like what’s on the label (not to mention whatever other junk might be in there), but it seems hard to get a consensus on what’s actually healthy. I’ve seen more than one homemade dog food recipe that includes garlic, but today I was on a site where a few people commented that it was crazy to ever put garlic in dog food, as it can kill them. Then someone else asked why they make garlic tablets for dogs if it’s no good.

In researching it further, it seems that there’s a substance in onions that can mess up dog’s blood, make them anemic, and in a worse case scenario cause heart failure and death. Since onions and garlic come from the same family of vegetables, the compound is in garlic too, but supposedly in smaller amounts.
