For many children who suffer from physical and mental ails such as cerebral palsy or autism life can be difficult. But recently, a new wave of therapy has been created to not only help these children with building their confidence and physical strength, but to also allow the children to know what it’s like to have fun. Hippotherapy as it has been so cleverly named does not suggest playing with hippos. In fact, hippos is the Greek word for Horse, and this therapy actually uses horseback riding to rehabilitate the children. They are first put onto a mechanical practice horse so that they can get used to the feeling of riding a horse, and then when they are ready the children are introduced to the real animal. Recently, Hippotherapy has begun its entrance into mainstream therapy because of the success rate with the patients. Although it can be a very expensive alternative to getting healthy, parents whose children are flourishing because of the therapy believe it to be worth every penny.
