Historical facts on online studies

The system of Online Studies is but a natural evolution from direct class room teaching. The online studies option arises from the practical impediment of not being able to provide direct teaching to all aspirants. Thus, online studies were preceded by distance education as well as correspondence courses. All these forms have a common property of not insisting on the physical presence of the student in the class room. They have a history dating from 1728. The University of London started its pioneer external studies division in 1858. This was followed by the University of South Africa in 1946. A large number of Asian universities have thriving distance education sections.
